You know you can click on tools in your browser & internet options & delete the cookies and files, this will help speed your slow computer up, but did you know that does not empty ALL the internet files? here is how you do it manually & I am using windows xp so it may be different if you have a different version of windows. - click on my computer
- Local C Drive
- Documents & settings
- click on tools in your browser, select folder options
- click on view, & scroll down to put a dot in "show all folders, files or hidden files."
- Click ok
- now look for default user, click on that
- click Local (it is a folder)
- click Temporary Internet folder
- In that folder, click Edit at the top of your browser & select all
- Right click on one of the files you see hilited & select delete.
Knowing how to get to that folder is very important because that folder is where viruses & worms like to hide. You might want to put a short cut on your desk top, so you can access it quicker, & after being online you should delete all files in that folder, I do it once a week.

Go into your control panel: 1) Performance & Maintenance 2) Free up space on hard drive 3) Disk cleanup This will clean up your hard drive, do this at least once a week.

Go to your start button and click on "search" Put in *tmp and click search. You will find a bunch come up if you haven't done this. ( I had over 100 when I did this, now it's much less because I do this once a week) All these files go! Right click on each one & delete. (some won't so don't worry about those and just skip to the next one) After this is done go to the search button again and put in *chk and repeat the process. You might need a cup of coffee and some time if you have never did this. These are files that just pile up in there and slow your computer down.

Cleaning up the hard drive for "Vista" users.
start button control panel performance information & tools open disk cleanup Highlight this...."Files all users" click the continue button and then hit "ok" (give this a minute and a screen with a list will come up)
You will see things that are automatically checked like: temp files, recyle bin etc...
Just click "OK"
Now it's cleaning up those files so give it a minute (shouldn't take long) and ...
Your done this step!
